"Addiction: Physical and psychological dependence on a drug."
Yep, thats it. I am not a psychologist, but know this is a misleading and incomplete definition due to an "error of omission," by neglecting to include that addiction is the result of the accumulation of poor choices, ones refusal to accept personal responsibility for both the choices made and the ultimate consequences; creating a vicious circle of self denial, delusion and blame. The definition also doesnt reveal that addiction encompasses more than just drugs. Peoples accumulations of poor choices, self denial and blame can lead to physical and/or psychological dependence on many other things. Food, sex, violence, enabling other addicts, lying, criminal acts, and many other choices a person makes based on lack of self-discipline and the repetition of the same poor choices.
I liken the definition to defining a car as a four door four wheeled Crown Victoria used to transport ones self to a movie theater.
There are much better resources than the Psych Terms app.
One star is for the app; the second star is for the inclusion of a sheer number of both familiar and unfamiliar psychology-related terms whose definitions can be looked up elsewhere.
